Juliette Coughlin :: Photo Editor
Juliette Coughlin is a photojournalist who has worked in the field as a photographer, editor and most recently as director of photography for daily newspapers within the United States.
She graduated from the University of Missouri-School of Journalism with a Bachelor’s of Journalism in 1994. She spent the first seven years photographing for newspapers and their respective websites in Indiana, Lousiana, Tennessee and South Carolina. As a staff photographer she was awarded best of show in 1995 at the Indiana News Photographers Association for an image of the O.J. Simpson verdict, placed in both the portrait and illustration categories in the South Carolina News Photographers Association and was awarded best news photo in 2001 by the Tennessee Press Association.
In 2003, she attended the Stan Kalish Photo Editing Workshop which confirmed her interest in editing and started her on a new photojournalism career path. In 2005, she became Director of Photography at the Ventura County Star in Ventura, California. In 2005, the Ventura County Star photo staff was named NPPA Region 10 Staff of the Year. Staff members won first and second place picture story, second place news photo and second place business photo in 2005 from APNEC. In 2006 staff members were awarded first and second place picture story and first place business photo from APNEC. Juliette served as a faculty member of the NPPA Southern Short Course in 2007.
When not working in a newsroom full of talented people, Juliette spends her time running, reading, hiking and playing with her boxer, PT.
